The Deviated Septum Surgery Experience (aka Septoplasty)
Had the operation on Wednesday, Dec 28th - 6 days ago. Why? Years of non stop sinus infections caused by lack of airflow through my nose. The septum was curved and as a result was allowing just 10% airflow through my right nostril. This surgery is supposed to open up the flow on the right side to near 100%.
Post surgery recovery:feels like the worst cold you have ever had. For 4 days/nights straight there was zero airflow going through my nose. On day 5 the swelling went down enough for a tiny bit of air to start flowing through both nostrils. Today not much has changed…still stuffed up pretty bad. Getting sick of doing nothing but mouth breathing for 6 days straight. The nights are tough b.c you wake up every hour or so really thirsty b.c your mouth gets so dry.
On day 5 I was able to stop wearing the bandage in the attached pic during the day…still have to wear at night.
Was the operation painful? Probably. I wouldnt know…that is what painkillers are for. The best way to describe the entire experience is “uncomfortable”.
Still have a week+ to go before I can feel the benefits of getting the operation. Until then it is still going to feel like a bad cold.
It has been a nice week just being able to chill with my family. Back to work tomorrow.
i am one of apple’s biggest fans…but if you are going to come after them this is the way to do it. even Steve would appreciate the approach…
